Company
paper always challenging
I relished
the daily challenges working as an English senior editor of
the Government of Canada bilingual publication The
Maple Leaf. The work involved checking sources, editing
copy and consulting with writers, and choosing photos and
art.
At
the 1999 opening of the Canadian War Museum's NATO:
A Pledge for Peace
gallery, Minister of National Defence Art Eggleton (left), former Chief
of the Defence Staff Gen (Ret) Paul Manson,
and former MND Barney Danson view a carving of then FLt Manson
scrambling at an aerodrome in England during the Second World
War.
I was responsible for ensuring English and French
texts were compa- tible, and networking with the Commands, Branches and partners of the Department of National Defence/Canadian Forces (Navy, Air Force, Army, Judge Advocate General, Veterans Affairs, CF Medical Group, Y2K Office,
CF Personnel Support Agency, et al.) to ensure that copy met
departmental standards. As well, I proofed the b/ws with design/layout
staff to ensure the integrity of the copy.
The work included writing and photography, for both The Maple Leaf and DND news wire service D-NEWS.
